*Updated 25th November*
A couple of things before my trip to Thailand tomorrow morning.
Yesh, I'll be heading to Bangkok to catch glimpses of skimpy pole dancers, try special massage services, watch sexy cabaret shows, smuggle some ultra cute Chow Chows, eat some aphrodisiac flies, get a Thai wife, and perhaps, try my luck for any cool guitar shops and will only be back on Monday night.
Okay. Maybe not. I doubt I'll be able to do all that, except checking out guitar shops (if I stumble upon one) *lol*
After that, it'll be the much-anticipated LGF gigs on two consecutive weekends! So, here are the details. You can read more about these 'charity/busking' gigs organised by AFUA over here (mel, don't mind I link it your well-put entry *lol*) :
4th December (Saturday)
7.00pm - 8.00pm
Youth Park
(Free Admisssion)
11th December (Saturday)
5.00pm - 6.00pm
Outside Paragon
(Free Admission)
After spending months in our secret songwriting location, jamming in our new-found underground (or rather, aboveground *lol*) secret studio, vigorous training on handling fireworks and learning the art of half jumps, and obtaining new fancy gear, we are ready for our upcoming gigs! We can't tell you how eager we are to present to you no less than 2 new songs plus the rest of the LGF originals!! If the crowd is nice, we'll throw a few cool covers as well! Heh ;) Of course, our single will also be available as well...if you've not heard/bought it, here's your chance to do so (in the name of charity too!) :P
So, if you're nearby the area, or have no plans to spend your Saturday evenings, just follow the booming soundwaves along Orchard Road :) Heck, bring your friends down too! But no need banners or posters lah, this is not SG Idols season 2 *lol*
Hahha...ok, as you can see... I'm pretty cranky at this moment, all thanks to the pre-trip/pre-gig excitement. I shall end here for now. Oh, while waiting for my return/next entry, you can read the post below a few more times if you'd like. Just remember to read the disclaimer as well. Heh.
*****************************
Recent news/scandal/rumours/postings/rantings/publicity about Singapore Idol finalist, Sylvester, have sparked some thoughts in me. Usually, I'd not get caught up with such hype but since it's supposed to be the talk of the town (and I'd be deem outdated and old if I'm non-chalant about it *lol*), I shall lay down some comments :P
Firstly, I'm NOT a fan of Sylvester. Nor Taufik. Or anyone else in SG Idol (okay, I have to admit that Maia is cute, sexy and spunky! :P) I've never voted a single time for anyone and will not do so for the grand finals cos I'm saving up for a Gretsch White Falcon. Okay, I'm kidding. It's not like I'm making 8800 calls *lol*
After reading/hearing all the 'virtual shootouts' in forums, websites, etc, I realised there's one viable reason for a person to hate a particular idol (or maybe I should use 'dislike'), it's not because of the mediocre singing...or poor showmanship, or the lack of appeal, whatsoever...but has it occured to you that perhaps it's their fans that you really can't stand? I mean those absolutely obsessed and crazed ones.
Sure, it's nice to support your idols with banners/home-made posters and hop on down to Mediacorp studio to watch them live, vote for them and all, but noooo...they don't just stop there...
You know you're a super-ultra-power-mega obsessed fan if:
-You create an avatar of your idol and put words like "I'm yours forever" on it.
-...and coined new terms to call yourselves, like Olindians or Taufikies or Slyers.
-You claim to be the secret lover/mistress/best friend/soulmate of the idol.
-You type his name in search engines and enter every website they generate.
- ...then you hunt down every single blog/website that says negative things about him and spam/flame on their tagboards, comments, etc.
-...but if the blog/website belongs to someone who knows the idol in real life, you beg, bribe or threaten your way to get the idol's email address or phone number.
-You can come up with a 3 page report on what you think about the strategies your idol's competitors may use to win votes.
-...and hold group discussions on how to counter them.
-You observe your idol so much that you can spot a new zit or a wrinkle on his face...
-... and analyse whether they are caused by stress, family problems or bad publicity.
-You know all about your idol's blood group, vital stats, background, past good and bad deeds and even ex-relationships (yikes!)
-You attempt to obtain all the other competitors' t-shirts just to burn them or stomp on them.
-You start to create 10 Friendster profiles, dedicating them all to your idol even though there are already 125 of them in existence.
-or you start to join every Friendster profile with the idol's name in it, hoping you can stumble upon his real account.
-You buy a domain name and a host to create a website for your idol, naming it 'The Official XXX idol fansite' when there are already more than 10 such 'official' websites.
-You try to pick up clues everywhere like a treasure hunt to find out where your idol lives...
-...and organise search teams to pinpoint his exact location.
-You buy the same shades, shirts, accessories your idol wears.
-You post messages in forums everywhere appealing for more supporters to vote for him and sounds as if he need those votes like some NKF charity show needs the funds.
-You fall out with your best friend just because he/she said that your idol doesn't appeal to him/her.
-You record, encode and learn to sing all his renditions of the songs every week
-...without knowing who the original artistes are, and will only listen to his version.
-You begin to excessively use the same gestures and expressions the way your idol does them.
-You develop a love-hate relationship with the judges depending on their comments for the week. You'll agree with whatever positive comments they give and curse them when they use negative ones.
-You begin to doubt the integrity of local media and question their intentions when they do coverage on your idol.
-You start to use terms like 'Freedom of speech' or 'Human rights' when accused of being naively obsessed with your idol.
And finally, you're the ultimate number 1 fan if:
You disagree with everything I've mentioned above, take offense in them, and decide to curse/flame/spam me *lol*
Okay, I'm sure I missed out more points, but that's enough for now. I'm sure not all fans are like that...and to cover my own ass, here's my disclaimer:
Everything I have mentioned in this post is to be taken with a pinch of salt. It is not targeted at any individual or group with any malicious intentions other than self-expression. I do not wish to be sued cos I still need money to buy a Gretsch White Falcon.
