Bring me back to life?

NOTE: Due to a bug in Movable Type (MT) that allows spammers to flood our comment boxes, my host has decided to seal off all the commenting until a patch is in place. I've switched to using Haloscan comment system for the time being and will probably export the comments back once MT fixes the problem.

It seems like my updates have become a weekly affair. I was telling some people that these days, blogging has gradually become more of a chore, even though there's a constant need for self-expression. From the day the event/incident happened, add a few days of indulging myself in the feelings/afterthoughts, waiting for photos, editing them, and actual blogging, it easily takes more than a few days for them to be translated into these words in my entries. And self-censorship in the form of selective filtering has reduced my blog to a mere lifeless, dusty display window. It's not really a choice, considering the fact that some of my closest peeps read what I write. Still, I'll take heed in someone's words: for memory's sake.

Overdriven

LGF's first band competition in Overdrive 2004 has met with bittersweet results. From the moment I witnessed the different bands soundchecking, I knew it was a different league as 4 out of the 6 bands there were funk/fusion bands while another was playing progressive rock like Dream Theater. We were the only rock/pop band playing chinese originals. It didn't help with a few of the judges being members of funk-influenced bands as well. Oh well. Nope, I wasn't really sore about not winning anything, just a tad disappointed. But still, we've learnt there are much more to just about winning the competition. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. From our well-coordinated dress code, to the hi-octane performance...from friends who came to give us support, to appreciative strangers who came up to us...right down to the 'chillout' sessions in the Kopitiam with da members and friends. Not forgetting, we finally have a decent video recording of our performance, kudos to Mel's film-maker friend, Jaymz. It'd be a blast to watch...and as a tool for self-improvement. We can't wait to get a copy of it after he's done with the encoding :)

Not forgetting, we'd like to thank everyone who came: Annie, Anna, Ming, Jaymz, Tiffany, Daryl, x.t and her friend. And strangers alike, who enjoyed themselves with our performances.

Some pictures below (click to enlarge, mouse over for description):

emi belting out our first song, 'Smash'......while I handle the background vocals in the 2nd song, 'Wo Men Chu Fa'.
Never a dull moment for SOCP, as he indulges in his 'get-high' bass-playing antics *lol*Spike-hair timekeeper, Mel, looking serious and concentrating on his drumming.
Tinkling away on the keyboard is Seto and our 'knobs and buttons' man, chOO sprinkled the songs with spiffy sound effects....in the heat of action...

Chillout pics

Pimp-daddies, SOCP and Mel...'Saviour of Chinese Pimp' would be more aptly named here *lol*SOCP testing out the 'goods' himself while Mel nearly went into a fit waiting for his turn *LOL*
LGF queen, emi, seemed momentarily lost in some thoughtsMe, Seto and chOO checking out the other bands with an 'This couldn't be happening...' expression
Somehow, I really like this picture...you can interpret it in many ways...like I'm dancing...or I'm walking away from the crowd, etc... :)Da boys of LGF! I like this picture too, even though it's blurry. Perhaps it's the expression on everyone's faces that made me smile :)
We are the creatures of the night...wanna come just us? hahah. The 'horns' on SOCP's head, emi's cold stare and my mocking expression made this a satyrical-looking pictureA arty-farty-wannabe picture *laughs*
My favourite photo of the event...LGF's 'group' photo...well-edited by none other than our in-house, band member-cum-designer, chOO.

...and then there was one...

...a rare guest whom I got the chance to meet, not once...but twice! (damn, I haven't placed my 4-D bets yet! *lol*)

Ok, I did tell her about the competition and even though she was keen to drag a friend or two along to watch us, her prior-planned dinner with her girlfriends clashed with our timing, thus had to give it a miss. Nevertheless, I took the chance to meet up with her briefly and staying true to the legendary 'Twirl', here's the prove:

Deja vu? :)
(in case you're wondering, the steps there weren't just meant for walking...haha...hey...cut me some slack and let the impression stay that way in the picture, yah? *lol*)

Then, came a pleasant surprise as she actually returned after her dinner with 2 of her pretty friends in the hopes to catch our performance! (though a little too late as we've finished our rounds) Thanks, Ting :)

All in all, the day brought about lots of thoughts, feelings, lessons...not just about the competition, but the whole experience as well. The eventful night seemingly ended with a slight headache as a result of a few continual days of deprived healthy sleep and some alcohol. However, it was not until a phone conversation which lasted till 5am, that truely sent a strangely good-feeling me to dreamland.

Ready, get set....GO!

Cool eh?

Heh. Alright, alright, I was just joking there. But those pics were the aftermath of the first Orchard Jam gig we did 3 weeks back. Didn't have a chance to post them earlier *lol* I can't remember how I got a small cut on my index finger and only realised it after the gig. Even contemplated to leave those stains on my guitar as part of the 'relic' process but felt it was a little too erm...'gimmicky' and 'posey'... wahahaha...ok, I shall spare you peeps from more crap from you for now...otherwise, no one will turn up on the finals *lol*

Seldom do this but...

Here's a little something to occupy your time while waiting for the next entry:

I 'stunned' this quiz from Mel, who 'stole' it from someone else and it goes on and on...wahaha!

Think you really know me well? Then take this quiz and I promise you'll discover something about me you'd never knew :P Then check the scores to see how others fare over here.

Overwhelmed!

Today's update is a major one! Includes pics from the long overdue Thailand trip and the LGF gig on the 4th December as well.

LGF Live in Orchard Jam

Yesterday's gig outside Paragon marks the end of LGF's stint in the Orchard Jam charity events organised by AFUA. A big 'Thank you' to everyone who came, be it friends, strangers or tourists who stopped by to watch us play...not forgetting those who donated and bought our single as well. This street-style gig was quite a blast to play despite some glitches and embaressing mistakes I've made ^^

It was quite overwhelming to be playing on the busy streets of Orchard road amongst waves after waves of passing pedestrians...amongst which I saw a couple of familiar faces...from bloggers to one of families whom I went Thailand with. Also, the famous-but-elusive-scarlett-beauty, Ting, who actually came to watch us perform! Must buy 4-D liao! *lol*

All in all, it was an pretty eventful day. Prior to the performance, I was approached by some NTU students for doing a survey on hair products and they took a picture of me cos they thought I had cool funky hair (hahaha...yah hor, Mel...should've gotten the ladies' contact XP *lol*) And after the performance, two American kids (aged 12 and 13) actually came up and talk to us about band stuff and all...and that they enjoyed our performance, etc...They even bought our single before we started playing and asked for our 'autographs' after we performed *lol* The kids themselves are forming a band themselves. I really admire that they start so young. Well, it's things like these that made our day...made us feel worthwhile playing. I could spot a couple of caucasians enjoying our songs and tourists whisking around videotaping us or taking snapshots...and a group of malay metal fans started asking about my equipment...and not forgetting another angmoh passerby chatted with me about guitar stuff cos he's a lefty too...gee...This is what it's all about...meeting interesting people, going places, and experiencing things while doing what I love to do most (okay...okay...getting too 'emo' here now....wahahah...I can see my band members rolling their eyes already..haha)

Will write more (and include photos) about this gig in time to come. So watch this space. Oh, gotta thank the Twins (and their friends) for their patience, support and photograph taking :)

Here are the photos of the gig a week earlier at Youth Park. Thanks to Gigi and Ino for the taking these pictures (mouse over pics for description and click to enlarge):

To start with, the sound system was good. Soundman was really professional and friendly (especially to our band!). Bassist, Kin Ho (or rather, SOCP) and me jamming it outHalfway into our first song, Kero Kero and I was already so high that I pulled off a 'Jimi Hendrix' stunt by playing behind my head. I'm not entirely sure whether my band members were impressed or just plain amused by their expressions *lol*
The 'Dynamic Duo', Seto (on keyboards) and chOO (on effects) took on the job of filling in the spaces with their high-techy soundsOur 'femme fatale' vocalist, Emi fronts the band while the rhythm drivers, SOCP (bass) and Mel (drums) pushes on the song
Drowning in lights and len flares, Emi slugs it out......while indulging herself and the audience with her stage antics.
A moment with SOCP while I prepare for my launch into......the guitar solo during the song, 'Smash'
Flirting with the camera *lol*

Thailand trip from 26th to 29th November

My cousins (plus their neighbours and friends) organised a Bangkok trip and since my parents joined them, I tagged along since I could use a break :) The entire group consisted of 32 persons in total, with kids, teenagers and grandparents! (!)

The purpose of the trip was pretty straight forward: Shop and eat! So, other than buying lots of stuff, the other 'highlights' were the Thai massage sessions :P For the 3 nights in Bangkok, I went for 2 nights of massage consecutively (I missed the first night >_<) Okay, I'm a 'suakoo', so it was my first time doing this massage thingy (~oooh...like a virgin, touched for the very first time...*lol*). Somehow (either through stories or hearsays), I kept having the impression of sleaziness in such activities *slaps forehead*...afterall, it wasn't before midnight that we headed to the 'ulu' massage-parlour-hidden-in-car-repair-garage underground area *lol* While we got ready to head to the common room (all the guys were in one room), I was teased by the masseuses lining outside (probably because I'm the only young guy among all the middle-age married guys)...one pretty (and shapely) masseuse grabbed me and jokingly uttered in broken english 'I book you!' My friend also want book you'...then proceeded to drag me into the single cubicle! Okay, for once I feared I might lost my 'first time' there *LOL* But luckily it was all a joke ^^ Despite not having the pretty masseuse work on me, the sessions were really wonderful. Really invigorating to have all your bones, joints and muscles worked on. Though the second night was not as good as the previous one as we were among the last customers and all the masseuses were like, already half asleep while massaging us -__-;

Ok, without much further ado, here are the few photos I've taken during the trip (as usual, mouse over for comments and click to enlarge):

It's a cold and wet December day...leaving homeThe shopping mall-cum-cinema (I think it's called 'Big C' just next to our Hotel, Hotel Arnoma.
A nice view from the window of my hotel room on the 9th floorIt transforms to a vibrant nightlife area when the sun goes down. There were lot band performances and beer drinking along the stretch with booming music that's faintly audible from my room during late hours

The hugely popular shopping paradise, Mah Boon Krong, MBK in shortFor the kids! A day was spent at the theme park, Dream World, where we rode lots of different rides (and got myself all wet from the wet rides)
Rode the viking...and it was exhilarating...though a couple of them went wobbly after it...hahaha!Ahh...how could I resist visiting their musical stores in search for rare, good finds...

Since I'm already here, I might as well as take a 'gothic' shot for future use in cd sleves or something...wahhaha! It' was taken in 'Giant house' in the Dream World theme park Huge advertisement boards grace the streets of Thailand...especially visible from the highways. Notice something special? *LOL*

And I mentioned before my trip, that I'd find a Thai wife...

But she couldn't wait for me *sob*

Haven't been in the mood to blog lately despite activities happening around me...from my Bangkok trip to the Youth Park gig and the audition that took place yesterday.

But it's things like this that made me lose all drive to do anything >__<

Yeap, it's the elusive vintage Fender Jaguar again. I swore I would've IMMEDIATELY hit the 'Buy now' button if it's a left-handed version. The only thing I wanna hit right now is a punching bag! Grrrrr.

Till I'm feeling better, no updates for now... :(
