Madagascar

I've always feared of cockroaches. Small, tiny ones are still okay, but not adult ones. Especially ones that fly. When I was younger and lived with my grandmother in an old shophouse, the place would crawl with cockroaches whenever it rained. Because of the way the outside drainage system links with the ones in the house, the pesky, disgusting cockroaches outside would enter the house via it. I think I was probably traumatised for life when one crawled on my thigh while I was bathing :/

Well, now they're still on my 'most feared' list, and I figured that maybe the only way to conquer my fear of cockroaches...

...is to keep one friggin huge one as a pet.

In case you didn't notice, it's not our typical household pesky cockroach, it's a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. Don't think it's found here in Singapore and it was given to me via my colleague through her friend who managed to get hold to a couple of them (hope it's not for some wacko experiment or I'll end up with a mutated one!! *lol*)

I hope by having one as a pet, I'd slowly get rid of my fear for the domestic ones. I did manage to actually touch it when transfering it to another container. So, it's kinda working *lol* But then again, these Madagascar ones are pretty slow-moving and docile...unlike the lightning fast ones at home :/

I have to be careful not to let it escape or something, otherwise I'd be responsible if Madagascar cockroaches start to breed in Singapore!! *lol* These things are huge and have suction cups on their legs!

Alright, I'll share more roach stories next time perhaps.

What a difference a smile makes...

One of my bus stories again...

As usual, I was in my half-awake state this morning when I boarded the bus to work...and as I was almost reaching the last row of seats, I caught a glimpse of an attractive lady passenger.

Perhaps it was her 'mysterious ways' or maybe just her in her simple black dress, that I somehow I couldn't help but stole more glances at her (hey...it's normal to look at attractive people, okay! *lol*).

Of course, my eyes dodged a little whenever she happened to look my direction *lol*

By the time I was nearing my stop, she was still there in the almost-vacant bus. She seemed to be getting off at the same stop as me. Then she turned her head in my direction...but this time, I didn't pretend to look away. And so, this beautiful stranger smiled at me.

I was kinda caught off-guard but I managed to let off a slight smile as well :) I couldn't fathom her gesture. Probably she might be thinking in her mind 'Uh-huh! Caught you in the act, you pervert!!' *lol*

But all I know is that I've never really been this awake during my mornings in a long time :P

Not your typical weekend...

It's been an eventful weekend...not of the chirpy, happy type, but of sombre and disappointment. The earliest gloom of the May day came in the form of a radio annoucement of the passing away of our former President, Dr Wee Kim Wee.

When I returned to the office this morning, news broke out that the son of one of my Department's teaching staff died in a drowning accident on Saturday. Another email came shortly after, mentioning the passing away of another staff's father. Damn...this is not a good way to start the week.

Things didn't go well at the President's Challenge gig on Monday as well. Due to the snow-balling effect caused by various delays in the schedule, my band ended up playing only 3 of the 6 songs prepared. And the technical problem of my pedals didn't help. We could've played one more song if not for the pedal problem. Ugh.

Ended up feeling quite shitty for the entire day. Not having played enough, being out in the sun and lugging my heavy case and guitar across the vast open fields of the Istana...I was almost in a grumpy mood.

I ran into more disappointments by the end of the day...but I shan't elaborate.

Nevertheless, I got to see what it's like in the Istana. The open house event did counter a bit of the negative mood for that day cos it was great seeing the kids/parents/visitors having fun, exploring the Istana, etc.

SG idols, Taufik and Sly were there to perform too, and it was kinda hilarious to see our bassist, SOCP, 'mingling' with some of the fan girls near the backstage area, only to be asked to pass some stuff to Sly *lol* Better luck next time, SOCP! *lol* But it's nice to see our local celebrities getting somewhere and receiving support from the local fans.

All the individual bands were invited to take a picture with the President and his wife...which was quite cool cos now we can put a tag on the picture taken with the President..."LGF: Approved by the President" *LOL* (Hmm...any photographers present at the event reading this? It'd be great to see shots of my band's performance)

Kudos to Patrick who roped us into this event, TNT sound (who provided kick-ass sound equipment!), the rest of the organisers of the event and performers (which include another friendly band, Pulse). Thanks to those who were there to catch our performance too :)

Hmmm...the lethargic mood I'm feeling now is almost putting me to sleep. Hopefully I'll be able to re-charge and dump all the negative energy inside me.

Pictures will come soon. But for now, an examination invigilation awaits me in the evening...darn.
